Jumper, based on Steven Gould's novel, is an action sci-fi movie directed by Doug Liman. It is about a young man - David Rice who has a genetic anomaly, which allows him to teleport himself to anywhere he wants. A high school student David discovers that he is able to teleport himself to any place on the earth. Things aren’t going well in his life, so he decides to move to New York and start a new life. He learns how to control his ability to teleport and things like robbing a bank without opening any doors or setting the alarm off. His new life is going great until he finds out that he isn’t the only person with such gift. In addition, there is a religious sect (paladins), which has sworn to kill every “jumper” on the world. That’s where the action begins. David teams up with another jumper Griffin who is more experienced in teleporting and already familiar with the paladins. Jumpers seek to find and kill the leader of the paladins – Roland. Besides, when David discovers about paladins, his high school crush Millie gets involved in action. The best things in the movie probably are the teleporting scenes. The effects are great, and the location shots are awesome. The teleport skill was used many times throughout the film, and it makes it really enjoyable. What is more, all the characters are very different and remarkable. For instance, David almost begs Griffin to team up, as Griffin prefers to hunt paladins on his own. That makes the movie even more interesting to watch. On the other hand, the script sometimes is unreasonable. At the beginning of the film, David seems to be a guy who gets everything he wants (including women), and doesn’t care about anything. Nevertheless, after eight years he just decides to go to his old friend Millie and take her out to Rome. Moreover, he does that just after a fight with Roland. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. All in all, the film is good because of the special effects and shooting locations, but it lacks some things. I would recommend it to people who don’t care much about the script, but enjoy the effects.
