Chandni Chowk to China is a typical Bollywood comedy flick with some catchy songs and amazing stunt scenes from the master himself- Akshay Kumar. Although Akshay does not need to prove his mettle in comedy or action scenes, this films lets the viewers have a glimpse of his martial-arts skills in a different style.
The film rides upon the popularity of Akshay Kumar as an action-comedy hero with his recent ultra-successes, such as, Singh is King , Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiyya, Bhagam Bhaag and Heyy Baby among others. Akshay is well know for his action skills but of late some of his comedies, such as Hera Pheri have gained a cult status among his fans.
Chandi Chowk to China is a film about a poor chef named Siddhu, played by akshay Kumar. Siddhu is always aspiring to become rich and famous and make something worthwhile of his life. The only problem that he has is his idyllic fantasy worlds that he refuses to live out of. He is a daydreamer and a buffoon.
Akshay with his typical comedy punches and dialogue delivery makes average scenes look like really funny. His on-screen chemistry with the lead actress Deepika Padukone can't be termed sizzling but they look good with each other. She plays a double role that makes her role complex but she does well within her limits.
The music has been composed by more than one music-director, which is not a trend in Bollywood. The music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash-Paresh-Naresh, Bappi Lahiri-Bappa Lahiri and Bohemia. The title track, 'chandni chowk to china' by Shankar Ehsaan Loy was an instant hit and another one by the same composers, 'tere naina' is a good tune too.
The movie has some brilliantly shot martial arts scenes. Some of these scenes have been shot in China at Shanghai Studios with a lot of local stuntmen. Akshay Kumar has done most of his action stunts himself as he usually does.
The movies is a light comedy with good doses of action and light-hearted drama not to forget a peppy music composed by some of the best musicians in Bollywood.
