Stepfather is Definitely Worth a Watch
The movie, Stepfather, is an adaptation of the movie with the same name that hit movie halls in the year 1987. The screenplay of the original movie was written by Donald Westlake, which was improvised by writer J. S. Cardone for the 2009 movie. Nelson McCormick is the director of the movie while it has been produced by Greg Mooradian as well as Mark Morgan.
Stepfather is the tale of a man, who escaped after killing his entire family. He then finds a divorcee, who he starts living in with. The woman also has three kids of her own living in the same house. In no time, the oldest son of the family begins to suspect that there is something not right about his stepfather.
The cast of the movie includes Dylan Walsh, who plays the lead and title role of the stepfather (David Harris). Sela Ward plays the divorcee (Susan Harding) he lives with, while the son (Michael Harding) is played by Penn Badgley. The plot of the movie is interesting, but not gripping.
The Stepfather is a good attempt at recreating the magic of the original movie. It involves quite a few thrills that can send chills down your spine, but when compared with the old movie, the cast fails to create the same kind of impact. Sela Ward is beautiful in the movie.
On the opening weekend, Stepfather succeeded in making $ 11,581,586 with its release in 2,734 screens. The gross earnings as on October 25, 2009 were $ 20,082,652, while those on November 15, 2009 were $28,802,131. All these statistics are with regards to USA. As observed, the sales of the movie have been quite impressive. One reason for this could be the curiosity in the minds of the people regarding this new interpretation of the old blockbuster.
